It is a hard question to answer, right? How long does it take to make money online as an affiliate marketer? There is a laundry list of variables to this. However, I will touch bases on some key points to get you started in the right direction.
Affiliate marketing takes a lot of work. So how long to make money online with affiliate marketing in 2021? Let’s start with this:
Affiliate Marketing – Quality Over Quantity
So usually there is a fast way, which usually doesn’t have lasting results. And there is the slow/long road that will continue to drive sales in a snowball effect. When I first started with affiliate marketing, I chose the fast way. It delivered results, but wasn’t a stable means to live a long life.
I built a ton of highly optimized mini-sites and plastered them with ads. Then I promoted the hell out of them and let Google do its work. I wasn’t capturing leads. A brand was never created. I wasn’t even planning for each website to have a long, healthy life.
This definitely produced significant money during this time, but it didn’t provide long-term. Long term results would mean continuously building my list. Constant focus on just a few website projects. Not these spammy ad-filled websites I was used to.
I wrote a post back talking about consistency being key with affiliate marketing, but that should also include patience. How long to make money online with affiliate marketing is quite dependent on the work you do and how you get there.
So How Long Does it Take to Make Money Online as an Affiliate Marketer?
To do it right, from scratch. It’s going to take some time. The real key is to be patient and do not give up even when you are feeling defeated. Trust me, this is a normal emotion every single web entrepreneur online has gone through (yes, even the big guys). This isn’t to say, if something isn’t working, don’t change it. But keep in mind that results take time.
The platforms you use will make a big difference in the timing of results. My heart-felt recommendation, is that you use all available platforms proven to produce results. This comes in the form of blogging, video, social media and more.
Blogging for Money as an Affiliate Marketer
Blogging is definitely a slow process that has the potential to produce huge results over time. With your blog, you must be consistent. I try to post 3-5 times a week on a new blog. Blogging like your life depended on it for a year and you’ll likely see money come pouring in. Keep in mind you’ll want to properly search engine optimize it! This means both on-page and off-page SEO for Affiliate Marketing in order to make money online. For on-page SEO, I use Yoast Premium (although free is pretty good too). You’ll also want to continually get other websites to link to you, naturally using anchor text for what you want to rank for.
Vlogging for Money using YouTube
If you aren’t creating video, then you are missing out on a lot of money. You can turn any blog post in to a video and make the most of your content. Video takes much less time than blogs and will also produce time-tested results if proper SEO is in place. When attempting to make money online with affiliate marketing, like blogs, you’ll want to post regularly. However, you should see results much quicker than you do with a blog. This means, cross-linking both your blog and YouTube channel to maximize traffic. The best part is that YouTube ranks much faster and if your videos are engaging, you can expect a ton of traffic. This is especially true when using long-tail keywords.
Making Affiliate Money using Social Media
Social media is one of the fastest means of creating traffic and gaining prospective leads. All this and the above should all be interlinked as your network, bouncing traffic between all the platforms. Remember, you want to get your offer in front of your visitors, so keep this in mind when creating a social media post. With social media, like Facebook or Instagram, you have an opportunity to engage with your followers. Treat your social media followers with respect. Don’t try to hard-sell them. Give them something of value and connect with them. You are on their turf, so remember that. Use these platforms to really get to know your followers, and when appropriate, share your content with them.
Using Paid Advertising to Make Money with Affiliate Marketing
Paid advertising, whether it’s Facebook ads, or Google AdWords, or YouTube ads, is the fastest way to make money with affiliate marketing. Unlike the above, it’s going to cost money and you can lose money if not careful. Remember long-term strategies here. If you pay for ads, you’ll want to use this to build your email list before sending them to your offer. You should NEVER send paid advertising to your blog, video channel or social media pages. Instead, you’ll want to make sure to always send your traffic to a landing page. Keep in mind, once you have subscribers, then you can introduce them to your blog, share videos and invite them to your social media pages.
Treat your visitors like family. Take care of them. Build your business gradually, focusing on one platform at a time (but ideally using them all in conjunction). All the traffic in the world doesn’t mean a thing, if your content isn’t interesting or engaging.
Again, be patient in order to make money online with affiliate marketing. Your first sale could even be a month or 2 out (extremely unlikely though!) Focus on your content, consistency, interaction and create your massive amounts of digital real-estate on the web. A year from now, you’ll be happy you didn’t create all those spam sites. A real online business doesn’t cut corners and this is your legacy.
See you at the top!
